Genesis Gem 9: Obedience

You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Genesis 2: 16, 17

Why is the act of obedience important?

God has given man freedom of choice.  Sadly, the Bible is full of examples of man going his own way… to his destruction.  God desires us to choose life.  To do so we must choose the ways of the One who created us.  After all, God declares… Continue reading

Genesis Gem 8: Exercise

Godly ExerciseThe Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it…  Genesis 2:15

From the beginning man was required to exercise his body through work (exercise).

The Importance of Exercise

The importance of exercise cannot be overstated.  In fact, Medical experts say inactivity poses as great a health risk as smoking!   Continue reading

Genesis Gem 7: Rest

“Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest"“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.  Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
Genesis 2:2, 3

The Hebrew word for rest is Shabbat, which means to cease, desist, rest.  God ceased from the work He was doing and made that day holy.

First God worked and then He rested.  This would be a great model for us to follow, a model reflecting godly balance. Continue reading

Genesis Gem 6: Purpose

"Let us make man in our likeness..."Let us make man in our likeness, and let them… rule…subdue…fill…”   Genesis 1:26-28

Created with a Purpose!

From the beginning, God created us for a purpose.  And our purpose encompasses our whole being: body, soul, and spirit.  With our physical body we work and perform, with our soul we reason and feel, and with our spirit we love.  As individuals, members of a family or group, and as members of God’s family, we each have been given something special to do and to become. Genesis Gem 5: Diversity

Diversity in God's Creation“Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years.”  Genesis 1:14

A wonderful attribute of God is His diversity; God is indeed multi-faceted! From the intricate and complex way He created us, to the abundant and immeasurable provision God has made for us… diversity abounds! Continue reading

Genesis Gem 4: Food

“Let the land produce vegetation…”          Genesis 1:11

“Let there be … fish… birds…livestock…” Genesis 1:20-25

Food is a controversial subject today!

Many believe eating a Bible-based diet means eating only the foods that came out of the ground; others believe animals were provided for our nourishment and are vital to good health.  Still others believe we can eat anything we want, after all, we’ve been “delivered from the law”!  We’ll explore each of these premises… Continue reading

Genesis Gem 3: Water

I thirst for God, the Living God. Ps 42:2“And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.” Genesis 1:9-10

Water makes up about two thirds of our body weight and every system in our body depends on water.  Even mild dehydration (lack of water) will drain our energy and affects the body’s ability to carry out normal functions.  An essential element for survival, we can only last a few days without it. Continue reading

Genesis Gem 2: Oxygen

Isaiah 42:5And God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water.”  So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so.  God called the expanse “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning— the second day.   Genesis 1:6-8

The second provision God made for mankind (and all the earth) was the air we breathe.

When we think of the sky, we think of oxygen.  So important is oxygen, we can only live minutes without it, and it is needed by every cell of our bodies.   Continue reading

Genesis Gem 1: Sunshine

Light of the World

To build the proper foundation on which to build our health, we need the right information.  Genesis provides a blueprint of exactly what the body needs.  Almost every provision man would ever need was made during the 6 days of creation, including the need for rest on the 7th day.  With the fall of man came new challenges as our perfect foundation was cracked.  In the next few posts, we will observe God’s perfect provision for man.

Let there be light. Continue reading

Part Two: A Solid Foundation- Introduction

Foundation on the ROCK“You, LORD,are above all others…you are the foundation on which we stand today.”  Isaiah 33:5-7

Foundation Principle:  A body built according to the principles of God can withstand the “storms” (diseases) of life.  The stronger the foundation work, the stronger the house (body).

The purpose of a foundation is to support the structure.   Continue reading
