Principle 5: Principles for healthy living can be found in the Bible.

”My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words.”  Proverbs 4:20

I have owned and operated health food stores, been involved with networking companies who sell supplements, have attended countless seminars, and have spent thousands of dollars learning “alternative” methods to building better health.  For a while, it seemed the more I learned, the more confused I got.  Each specialty felt THEY had the answer to what ails us, each company offered a special elixir that would change lives.  We listen to “experts”, we look for “super” nutrients, and seek out “magical” cures. We will spend more than a trillion dollars on health care and billions on supplements and alternative medical treatments; still… health, energy, and fitness will elude many of us!

A brief history…

Having had five surgeries in five years (from age 18-23), totally broke and completely despairing, I set out to find answers.  I had nothing to hang onto except my faith – believing that: God wanted me well, He would show me the way, and I didn’t need to be wealthy or wise (with man’s wisdom) to achieve it.   I endeavored to take what I learned and keep it “simple, teachable, and affordable”.  I came to learn that keeping it simple, teachable, and affordable meant keeping it “Biblical”.

He said, “If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD , who heals you.”  Exodus 15:26

In 1993 I began my business.  I was working in health food stores and found myself conflicted.  Because I didn’t believe supplements without education would help anyone long-term, I spent too much time talking to customers and not enough time selling.  An opportunity presented itself and it was time to venture out - I opened a consulting office.  By “chance”, the very month I started my business I began a very intensive Bible Study, and by “chance”, we were studying Leviticus.  This Bible study changed my life.  I saw that God had laid out very specific instructions for preservation of our health.  I was hooked!  From that day forward, everything I learned had to line up with God’s Word.

The Bible contains a treasure-trove of priceless principles about healthy living – principles that have the power to heal us, transform us, and make us whole.  As this post comes to a close, I want to encourage you to seek out these principles for yourself, dig into God’s Word, and allow Him to unearth the priceless treasures that will bring an abundance of health to you and those you love.  Consider Psalm 119:14-16…

I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.

I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.

I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.

Great health can be worth more than great riches when health is lost…
